EGR valve or Exhaust gas re-circulation unit. Designed to lower emmisions and re-circulate hot exhaust gases through a built in cooler and back through the engine. Unfortunately audi/VW suffer with these items going faulty. Common symptoms Inc.. engine malfunction light illuminating on your dash and more common serious lack of power.
